Der sogenannte „Peabody Award“ ist nach dem amerikanischen Geschäftsmann und Philanthropen George Foster Peabody benannt und würdigt hervorragende Leistungen bei amerikanischen Radio- und Fernsehstationen bzw. Netzwerken (National Association of Broadcasters).
1987 wurde die Episode Der große Abschied (The Big Goodbye) eingereicht und gewann dann sogar den Preis vor ihrer Erstausstrahlung (11.November 1988). Hier die Verleihungsbegründung auf der Winner Site des Peabody Awards:
“Star Trek has been part of the American television fabric for more than two decades. An attempt to make Star Trek: The Next Generation live up to the considerable reputation of the original was complicated by the fact that it would appear, not on the networks, but in first-run syndication. Rather than give in to the usual realities of “first-run"and produce a low budget, but profitable program, the producers chose instead to opt for the highest quality in writing, decor, acting, and, indeed, all facets of the production.
In doing so, they have set a new standard of quality for first-run syndication and this is exemplified in the episode The Big Good-Bye. The Peabody Board has chosen to honor that episode and, in doing so, challenge the broadcast industry to provide the syndication market with programs of the highest quality. Interessant ist, das die drei Figuren die mit dem Sticker versehen wurden, aber nur eine davon wirklich mit der Episode etwas zu tun hatte, nämlich Picard als Dixon Hill (6050). Warum Playmates nicht auch auf die nachfolgenden Figuren zu der Episode auch den Sticker geklebt haben, bleibt ein Rätzel. Denn in der Figuren Serie 5 (6950) erschien Lt.Com. Data in 1940‘s Attire (6979) und in der Figuren Serie 6 (6430) dann Dr. Beverly Crusher in 1940‘s Attire (6435) und später sogar folgte dann ein Doppelpack mit Captain Jean-Luc Picard as "Dixon Hill" and Guinan as "Gloria" (65181).
